With an aim of further integrating human resources and improving efficiency, the Chinese Government decided to temporarily close its Consulate-General in Constanta from 30 June 2017, and all the diplomatic and consular affairs of the Consulate-General will be handed over to the Chinese Embassy in Romania.

On 8 June, China officially notified the Romanian Government of the decision, and the Romanian side expressed its respect to the Chinese decision. Both sides hold that temporarily closing the Chinese Consulate-General in Constanta will not affect the further development of bilateral relations.

China and Romania are traditional friendly countries. Currently there is good momentum in China-Romania relations. The Chinese side attaches great importance to the relations with Romania and will work with Romania to push the friendly and mutual beneficial bilateral cooperation in all areas to new highs. The Chinese Embassy in Romania will keep in close contact and strengthen cooperation with the Romanian side, and will continue its unremitting efforts in further boosting the friendship between the two peoples, promoting bilateral cooperation and better serving the Chinese nationals in Romania.
